Workshop at ALPS: A Signal for International Cooperation Among Mountain Museums

Since 2023, the ALPS Alpine Museum of Switzerland has been a member of the International Mountain Museum Alliance (IMMA) based in Turin. This international network includes mountain museums from Kathmandu (Nepal) to Banff (Canada), with a focus on Europe. The workshop at ALPS on September 19 and 20, 2024, brought together a working group of 10 museum directors from France, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Switzerland to get to know each other better and to develop forms of cooperation. Initial ideas for common themes and approaches for future exhibition and collection projects emerged. Working groups were formed, and tasks defined, with results to be discussed and adopted at the next meeting in May 2025 in Sabadell (Spain) in the IMMA plenary.
